Ben and Kathy Dailey have been married for almost 32 years, after raising their two children and three of his brother’s children after his brother passed away, they thought their life was pretty much confined to loving and spoiling their grandchildren, however God had other plans. Ben is the pastor of a small rural country Baptist Church and is working on completing his seminary studies. One day while doing research for one of his papers, he ran across a site that listed children with special needs that needed adopting. There was one particular child that caught his attention and this was a young man who was hearing impaired. What stood out to him about this particular child was he was hearing impaired. God laid this child upon Ben’s heart and finally he talked with Kathy about him and her reply to him was what are you waiting on?
Ben comes from a family of hearing impairments on both sides of his family. His father’s youngest brother was born deaf and his mother’s youngest sister went deaf due to sever ear infections. He now has a hearing loss himself, but is able to hear with the use of hearing aids, and he and Kathy both know this child will need this kind of family support from an immediate and extended family group. This child needs a home and not only that their family understands deafness first hand and already know American Sign Language (ASL) for the deaf and this young lad will need that kind of support.
