LUCIA for the Grimes family — NY

Mike and Theresa Grimes met in a tiny college town in Emmitsburg Md. We have 8 wonderful sons ranging from 28-8 years old. While there is never a dull moment at our home we know we have lots of love to share. People keep telling us “your plate is full” our answer is “We have a lot of room in our hearts”.

Both Mike and Theresa always wanted a daughter and are thrilled to be getting her through the blessing of adoption.

We are so happy to have found Reeces Rainbow and are thankful for all of the support from this amazing community.

“Being unwanted, unloved, uncared for forgotten by everybody, I think that is much greater poverty than the person that has nothing to eat.”

TWO CHILDREN for the Yeatts family — PA

Abbey and Evan met while attending graduate school in Philadelphia 6 years ago. After starting to get to know each other, they discovered they shared an unlikely connection of wanting to one day care for a special needs child. Abbey worked professionally in a 1-on-1 setting with children with special needs, and Evan grew up with a younger brother with Williams syndrome and an aunt with cerebral palsy. They were married in 2016 and agreed that they would eventually adopt a special needs child, perhaps one day when they had a small family they could bring them into.

Three years later at a time when Abbey and Evan were talking a lot about having children, Abbey discovered Reece’s Rainbow after speaking with a colleague about their desire to adopt. After reading more and learning of the pressing need for adoptive parents for special needs children, Evan and Abbey had a conversation of “Why not now?” Shortly thereafter Abbey discovered a little boy with cerebral palsy waiting to find his forever family. Both Abbey and Evan fell in love with his smile, and they knew they couldn’t imagine putting off adoption any longer.

SILAS and PATRICIA for the Winslow family — GA

We are the Winslow family; a family of 4 who is working towards becoming a family of 6, by adoption! Our story began in 2007, when I met my husband, Dan. Dan was an active duty PFC in the Army and was a very proud soldier. Sadly, and proudly, the day came when Dan received orders for his deployment to Iraq, and it was scheduled to be an 18-month long tour.  When Dan deployed that day, I was about four months pregnant with our son; whom was named after his dad.

Unfortunately, Dan’s deployment did not go without complication. During a mission, one of his battle buddies dropped a very large and heavy tailgate onto the top of his head. This injury was not properly treated by the medical team and sadly everyone went on with their mission, Dan included. Over the next several months, Dan continued to serve in Iraq and did have many complications arise that were going untreated.

When our adorable baby boy was born, Dan was unable to make it home. Dan was not able to officially meet Daniel until a “rest and relaxation” was allotted, which allowed Dan leave Iraq for 18 days to be home. At that time, Daniel was 2 months old. During the 18 days home, we were officially married. After returning to Iraq, two years after the initial accident, a brain scan was even completed and we learned Dan suffered a traumatic brain injury. Due to this, Dan’s “planned out future” of staying Army until a 20-year retirement turned into becoming medically retired from the United States Army at the age of 25.

Dan and I were absolutely thrilled being parents, we always wanted a large family. We became pregnant again but lost the baby in a very early stage; this happened again during pregnancy number three and four. These losses were very hard on our family. In January of 2014, Daniel was 5 years old and we were once again blessed to learn that I was pregnant, but also absolutely petrified. Our beautiful little girl decided to come none the less; at only 25 weeks gestation; we named our tiny girl Joslynn.

Throughout our marriage, Dan and I have always had discussions about adoption, our goal has always been to have a blended family of biological and adoptive children. We always had this image that when God spoke, we would know it was time to start the process to adopt from foster, but little did we know the plans He had in store for us.

On a morning that seemed no different than any other day, I was scrolling on Facebook of all places and came across a post that a friend made. This post showed a picture of an adorable little boy with the sweetest grin.  I learned that this sweet child was in Eastern Europe and I learned this child was an orphan and had a lot of the same special needs as our Joslynn! I can’t explain it in any other way then that I felt God speak to my heart. It was as if He said, “this is your son.” Then we came across a little girl with adorable curls and it was as if we could hear her laugh through her photo. Dan and I just looked at each other and we knew.

Feeling so called, we started praying very fervently, this was such a big cost and a scary one to boot. How could we possibly think we could do this? When speaking to Daniel and Joslynn regarding the children, they were both so excited. Daniel yelled out “I will make a lemonade stand! We can raise the money” and our hearts just melted. Just today, our little Joslynn found a penny in a parking lot and excitedly exclaimed “this is going to help bring our babies home!” Its such a big leap of faith, but as a family it’s a faith walk, we feel God is calling us on. We are trusting in Him to provide and doing all we can to be open vessels for that providing.

DOMINIK for the Odegaard Family — SD

In 2010, Sam and Aaron met because two mutual friends found it strange that they both wanted “a lot of kids”. Their friends immediately introduced them. Within a few weeks, they were dating. Not long after, they had a serious talk about their future. Sam had grown up as a foster sister (her family had done foster care since she was 13). Her dream was to carry on that legacy. She wanted to foster and adopt. Aaron was fully supportive of this dream. Two short years later, they were married in July 2013!

They have carried out this dream already twice! They welcomed a son by birth, then adopted a 5-year-old boy, gave birth to a baby girl, adopted a 13-year-old girl, and then welcomed another boy through birth. Their kids are currently 14, 9, 5, 3, and 4 months. That makes 5 kids in 5 years!

Shortly after their second adoption, Sam found Reece’s Rainbow. She started researching and scouring websites full of waiting children all over the world. She read about “seeing the one” and “just knowing”. She asked Aaron many times about children she saw to see if maybe it was time to start an international adoption because they had simply found “the one”. She was heartbroken each and every time it was a “no”.

In December 2018, they welcomed another baby boy, Maverick, to the family. This put them at five kiddos in five years and they were sure they were done for a while. But then on January 25, 2019, just a month and a half after Maverick was born, Sam saw a picture of a little boy that made her heart skip a beat! She immediately started emailing his agency to find out more. She knew for certain that this was “the picture” she had been waiting to see! She approached Aaron with hesitation as they had just discussed waiting to add more kids to their family. He said “no” again, but this time she asked him to pray about it because she was certain he was their son. One month later, she asked again. This time, he asked questions about the boy, his country, and the process. Two weeks later, they submitted their first documents to adopt him! God sure does work in mysterious ways!! They welcome your prayers as they begin this long process to bring home Odegaard baby #6 in just 6 years.

They are so excited to meet their son but need help to get there! If you are able and feel called to do so, please pray for their journey and consider donating to help them get their son HOME.

Markus and Sarah Linke met at church 11 years ago and have now been married for 8 years. A lot has happened in their 8 years of marriage; from experiencing miscarriages, to dealing with infertility, to the adoption of their miracle baby Hope in 2013.

In the beginning of their relationship, long before they experienced infertility, Markus and Sarah realized they had a common desire to adopt. And in 2013, less than 2 years after they experienced the heartache of miscarriages, their baby girl Hope practically fell into their laps. She is by far the biggest blessing in their lives. In 2015, when Hope was 2 years old, they saw the profile of a little boy with special needs and decided to try to adopt again. But just as they were nearing the end of their home study, the foster family decided to adopt the little boy.  So they decided to put adoption on hold for a little while. There is no guarantee in adoption; there are always risks. But they knew they had to try again! They have room in their hearts and home for more children, and Hope is so very excited to be a big sister!

Markus and Sarah feel so blessed and are thrilled to be on this adoption journey! They would greatly appreciate your prayers and welcome any financial support as they work hard to bring their son home as quickly as they can.

We are the Woertman family and we are having so much fun with our children that we decided we needed one more. We are hoping to adopt a little girl with Down Syndrome. We live in the great state of North Carolina. We have 5 adult children, 5 school aged children and four Grandchildren.

Fred just finished up his 25th year of teaching middle school. He is often called the “kid whisperer.” He really understands middle schoolers. Between having kids, Candy taught 13 years, but has now put her teaching career on hold while her kids are little. She is currently a Teacher’s Assistant at the elementary school that all five little ones attend.

We are excited to be on this adoption journey one more time. We are also hoping to be matched with the little girl that Candy has had on her heart for almost two years.

TASHA SUE for the Wood family — VA

Greetings from the Wood Family! We are Brian, Kristen, Graysen, Emma Rae, and Blake and coming soon, a new daughter to be named Katie! We have been married for 10 wonderful years, and we have 3 amazing children. Brian is a student pastor at Point Harbor Church and Kristen is a Registered Nurse working in an elementary school.

Shortly after being married, we started talking about adoption and really felt a tug in our hearts early on specifically for China. About 4 years into our marriage, some friends of ours adopted their sweet girl from China and that started a ripple effect and we soon were surrounded with so many friends who said “YES” to their children in China. This only fueled our hearts more for China.

After we moved to VA, we were introduced to another family who has adopted 3 babies with Down Syndrome from China. Down Syndrome had never been on our radar, however, we fell absolutely in love with these amazing children. Although we always had a peace about China, God began to break our hearts specifically for children with Down Syndrome.

We were “introduced” to our daughter on Reece’s Rainbow site.  Katie has Down Syndrome, CHD, and repaired VSD and PFO. She is an absolute doll and we cannot wait to have her in our arms. Katie will be 2 years old in July and we want to have her home as soon as we can. She has 3 siblings who are over the moon for her already and are so ready to have their sister home.

Please help our family to bring our daughter home! We plan to travel with our two oldest children, who are 11 and 9 yrs old. We greatly appreciate all prayers and financial support as we continue our adoption journey to complete our family!

A CHILD for the McKenney Family — TN

The McKenney Family is pursuing a child with Down Syndrome in Eastern Europe. Adoption can be a long process, but they and their six children (5 biological, 1 adopted from foster care) are so excited to walk in obedience and add a beautiful gift from God to their family.

Now we know that international adoption cane be daunting, but God has a heart for adoption! As they’ve been praying through this and seeking God in this – they’ve been so inspired by all the times in Scripture that God calls out His people into obedience – into things that seem daunting, a little scary – things that seem too big for them. And we’ve been challenged and comforted by the words of Jesus in Mark 10:27: “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”

If you feel called to support them in this process, then the first and most important thing they ask you for is prayer. Pray for their family during this process, pray for this little one as they wait for one another, and pray that God would continue to provide financially. The reality is that international adoption is very expensive – so if you feel God is calling you to financially support them in this process, then they would welcome your support!

They thank you for your prayers and financial support as they pursue this beautiful child that the Lord has placed on their heart!

Carrie and Gary Mitchell are adopting again! In 2017 they brought home their daughter Preslava (4). In addition to Presley, they have two biological children, Constance (7) and Callie (5). All three girls are looking forward to bringing home their little brother!

Adoption has been a life-long passion of Carrie’s, and Gary got interested in loving orphans several years ago too. They were thrilled to adopt one child in 2017, but felt God wasn’t done using their home to take care of those who need a forever family. Carrie has felt especially drawn to waiting children and regularly looked at waiting kids online. When she saw her little boy online, Carrie immediately knew this was the one God had in mind for our family. And Gary knew it immediately too. Not only will all the girls have a little brother to be the “mother” too, Presley with have another sibling to share her Bulgarian roots with.

Gary and Carrie have been married for 16 years. Carrie is a stay at home mom who homeschools her girls, and loves every minute she gets to spend with her children. Gary has been a certified public accountant for eight years, ever since Gary and Carrie were honorably discharged from the Army National Guard. Constance wants to be an astronaut and loves softball and soccer, Callie loves dance, and Presley loves dogs.

We thank you for your support and prayers as we step out in faith and embark on this journey again!

Twenty years ago, Elijah and Tiffany Jackson fell in love. Two years later, they got married and built a home on the century-old family farm. They started a family, having two wonderful little boys fairly close together. Five years later they were blessed with a little girl with Down syndrome, and oh, how her brothers loved her!! It didn’t take any of them very long to realize Down syndrome was not something to fear or avoid, but something to celebrate and cherish! The thought had come to them while their little girl was still a baby that they should think about adopting a child with Down syndrome, so they checked Reece’s Rainbow here and there, but didn’t know how to take the first steps of such a big journey! So, for a time, the idea was forgotten. 10 years later, Heavenly Father made it very obvious that it was still in His plan for the Jackson’s to add to their family through adoption! With the help of a good friend, they got right to work. They are so excited and ready to have little sister in their home and to be in their family forever!

2 Boys for the Adkins family — NC

Jonathan and Erin are so excited about growing their family through the journey of adoption! The possibility of adoption first came about when Erin stumbled upon the Reece’s Rainbow Instagram page via a previous adoptive family. As she was scrolling through pictures of adoptable children, two adorable brothers caught her eye. After a few weeks of contemplation, she showed the brothers’ picture to Jonathan. He immediately felt the same way she did when he saw their picture. After much research, discussion and prayer, Erin and Jonathan decided to dive in to the adoption process head first! They feel strongly that there was a reason that the picture caught their eye in the beginning, and they have trusted in that reason throughout the whole process! Both Jonathan and Erin’s families are very excited and supportive of the couple’s decision to adopt.

Jonathan and Erin are in the process of finalizing their homestudy and are excited to keep moving forward throughout the process. Any help we receive will be so greatly appreciated! We are looking forward to sharing our story and joy throughout the adoption process.

Hi, we are the Cochran family, Mike, Grace, Natalie (5), and Jason (3). We are a military family stationed on the beautiful island of Okinawa. Mike is an EOD tech (explosive ordinance disposal) in the US Marine Corps. He has served 10 years and plans to retire. Grace is a stay at home homeschooling mama. We have been married for 9 years. We have had a heart for adoption for a very long time but it wasn’t until this year that we felt God telling us that it was our time. We took a leap of faith with a whole lot of nothing in our pocket back in June of this year. We watched God use what little we had and multiply it. Within a months’ time we had enough to fund our first payment and homestudy for our China adoption. In July Mike came home from deployment and we got to work. Within a month’s time we managed to compile our dossier and complete our homestudy (yes it is doable!) During that time frame I came across an advocacy post for this precious little girl with Down Syndrome. We knew she was the one! She will be 2 years old this October and shares the same birthday as her soon to be daddy. We hope to travel early next year. This journey has not been easy and we still have so far to go but every day is one step closer to her. We know that God has such amazing plans for her life, so much bigger and more beautiful than we can imagine. Thank you for the honor of sharing our story with you. Most importantly thank you for the prayers and support.

Luke and Kelly Grover are parents of four beautiful children. Three of which are biological. Their fourth, Zoey, was adopted from China in 2017. Even before their marriage Luke and Kelly knew they wanted a large family. After each of their children were born premature, their youngest child being born two months premature, they were advised by their doctor that having children biologically was a risk. While disappointed, they knew they would continue to grow their family another way. They wanted to find children who might have difficulty finding a forever family because of special needs. After bringing home Zoey, who has Down syndrome, and experiencing how much love and joy she brought to our family, they decided to try again. This time they were introduced to Holly, who also has Down syndrome, and absolutely fell in love. They are working through their dossier and immigration paperwork and hope to travel in early 2020. TATE for the Wilkinson family — KS

The Wilkinson family as been in the process to adopt now, for over 2 years. They have been married for 10 years and have a 15 yr old son and 7 and almost 9 year-old daughters. Jeremy is in the United States Army and Elizabeth was working but moving every 2 years has made things difficult to continue. Initially, when they felt the call to adopt, they started by getting licensed for foster to adopt. They had already discussed adopting a child with Down Syndrome but they waited as they never received a placement. After the heartbreak of waiting and thinking it may not happen, Elizabeth met a woman who had adopted once from a certain country program and was currently in the second adoption. So Elizabeth decided to contact an agency in regards to trying to adopt internationally. They saw a file for a little boy with down syndrome who was very young. Once her husband came home and she showed him the photo, he had already picked a name! This was in March 2017. They were excited yet apprehensive because of the high cost and not understanding the process fully. So, after a few weeks of not really knowing how to come up with the money, they decided they needed to remain with the foster care to adopt route. This decision was very difficult for Elizabeth. She prayed and cried daily about the little boy who stole both of their hearts. She continued to check with the agency, but they assured her another family had come forward for him. Fast forward to September 2017, they were back home visiting family and Elizabeth noticed the same little guy on Reece’s Rainbow with a decent sized grant! She couldn’t believe it so she reached out to Reece’s Rainbow to verify that he was indeed still available to adopt. Elizabeth talked to Jeremy and showed him the grant. They decided together that they would go ahead and pursue him. This time they were able to get his file from their agency. It has not been an easy road. After starting and completing their home-study and immigration approval, they got notice they would be moving quickly to another state. But determined not to lose their little boy’s file, Elizabeth located another home-study agency in their new state that had been used for the same country program!! The move slowed things down drastically and has added expenses but now they are in the final months before travel and still have a little bit more to come up with. They are continuously applying to grants and scraping every penny possible to finish. After 13 long months in the process for him so far they are eager to bring him home and spoil him with love!

Amy & Kyle are so excited to welcome their first child into their lives through adoption! When they first began dating it was clear that they both wanted children and that they both had dreamed of growing their family through adoption. For Christmas one year Kyle gave Amy a card with appointments scheduled at multiple adoption information sessions and so began their journey to beginning their family!

After lots and lots of research and exploration of many many countries, they decided to adopt from South Korea where Kyle’s grandmother and mother were born. They love the idea of their child growing up around people who share their heritage and will help to preserve some of their culture.

Kyle has his master’s degree in international public health and now serves his local community empowering residents to make healthier lifestyle and food choices. Amy has her BA in Social Science with a concentration in Anthropology. She found her passion in photography and loves documenting weddings of the various cultures in California. Kyle and Amy both have a love of the world and they look forward to exposing their child to lots of travel both to South Korea and beyond while also focusing on loving our local community and bettering the world both near and far.

They have recently completed their home study and are approved to adopt a single child or twins and are open to special needs. Cardiac special needs are particularly close to their heart since Amy was diagnosed with an Arrythmia that was operated on shortly after they were married. That led them to discovering an amazing cardiac care team at Stanford hospital (who already know about and are so excited for the adoption) that would be a great resource for any heart related special needs their child may have.

They expect their dossier to be sent to South Korea soon and are so excited to learn who their child will be!

Amy & Kyle will be adding updated posts to their blog as things progress. If you would like to come along on this journey, please follow their blog. As always, your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated!  Thank you in advance for coming along with us on this amazing journey!

Dan and Tara Brooke are parents of four beautiful children. The oldest three were born biologically to the Brooke family, while their fourth, was born in their hearts. In 2016 the Brooke family was gifted with their youngest child, George, through adoption. Dan and Tara had felt a call to adopt, but didn’t know exactly what that meant until 2014 when they felt the call to adopt a child with Down Syndrome. George was an instant match to the Brooke family and has been such a tremendous gift to their lives. He has gifted them with more joy and love than they ever imagined. In late 2018 the Brooke’s felt a call again. They were unsure how they were going to make adoption work financially in their lives again, but knew that they were supposed to adopt once again. Early in 2019 they began that process. They have been matched to Zack Qi and are in the midst of dossier and immigration paperwork. They hope to travel late 2019 or early 2020 to bring Zack home to their family and make him a Brooke too! We are the Browns! We are a family of 14 hoping to add one more to our crazy, wonderful life. Daniel and Svetlana met in Russia. Daniel was serving there as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After a year of being back in the United States, Daniel asked Svetlana to come here and be his wife. They have been married for over 22 years and have 12 amazing children ages: 5, 8, 9, 9, 12, 13, 14, 14, 16, 18, 20, 25.

Daniel is the oldest of 10 children. So, a big family is not a big deal to him. Daniel is also a high school teacher, and a Robotics Club Coach. Which, of course, helps in dealing with lots of children and the chaos that can ensue.

Svetlana grew up in Russia and is an only child. She always dreamed of a big family and adopting from an orphanage. She has taken several medical classes to help prepare her for the special needs of each child.

Their children are excited to have new siblings to love. Although the three oldest children are out of the home; They come back to visit, and help out, as often as possible. All of the children enjoy being able to love, work with, and watch the development of those less fortunate. They are looking forward to the great service of compassion that they will be able to give these special children.

The Brown family is hoping to add baby Kellen to their family. This precious child is in great need. He needs to come home soon, and get the medical attention they deserve, the love they need, and a family that has chosen them.

Kara and Christian met through mutual friends years ago, and each separately knew that the other was who they wanted to marry. Christian and Kara both work from home, so they are able to spend one on one time with their children, and devote the time needed to attend to every dance class, therapy and school function. An occasional date night sneaks in every so often too! Christian and Kara’s belief in God is a mutual one, and has been part of their marriage and family foundation their entire marriage with all life’s ups and downs. They know that it has been through Their belief in Him that they are where they are today. They have now been married 14 years and have 4 beautiful daughters, all of which are so excited to become big sisters, yet again!

After the birth of daughter number 3, who was born with Down syndrome, their families hearts became opened to a whole new world of love and learning. The thought of adoption had always been in the back of their minds, but didn’t think it would ever be possible.

This year every thing lined up perfectly, and God provided the way for the Barratt family to finally adopt. They knew for sure it was going to be another child with DS and that they were going to travel far to bring her home. They are so very excited to meet their little sweetheart and catch her up on the love and kisses she has been missing for so long. Prayers for their little one would be so appreciated, to keep her healthy and strong while they wait for that big day when she can come home!
